When I started pre-planning this session with the Guerras, they were looking for the perfect location. They loved the idea of Bridgeport Marketplace in Valencia (ahem, Awesometown) since they wanted a lush landscape. I was ready to switch gears if necessary, since the lighting at Bridgeport Marketplace & Duckpond can be tricky depending on the weather. It turned out that I didn’t have to use my backup plan – the light was absolutely gorgeous that day! And boy-oh-boy, did this family look stunning in their portraits!
Photographing the Scherberts was so fun – they were so upbeat and up for anything! Heather and I go way, WAY back, so it was such a great experience to capture new memories for her and her family. She prefers a lifestyle / photojournalistic style, so we captured lots of candid moments in addition to the usual posed shots.
You have met Alex & Emily – now meet Thomas! Thomas is my other half, my best friend, and my toughest photography critic. I wouldn’t be able to run Cristen Farrell Photography if I didn’t have his support and encouragement every day. He has pushed me to make my dreams a reality and, for that, I am eternally grateful.
Here are a few shots of Thomas on our recent vacation from Southern California to Northern California and back. Of course, because he is obsessed with baseball, when we found an old, abandoned baseball field near Mt. Whitney, we knew that we had to stop and get a few shots. And because he is obsessed with politics, we knew we had to snap a shot in front of our state capitol in Sacramento.
This is the first time I have entered one of the iheartfaces photo challenges, but I couldn’t pass this one up! This week’s theme is “Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes…Anything But A Face!” I photographed the Hills Family in 2010 and these silver boots were the the cutest, especially because this little girl was so super proud of them!
When I first talked to J, she explained to me that she had never had the chance to have an engagement session with her husband. I was surprised when she told me that they have been married for 3 years! How exciting! The best thing about being a photographer is capturing special moments that my clients treasure forever and I just knew that I couldn’t let this cute couple down. Check out how adorable and in love they are!

Since it’s almost Christmas and I’m going to be launching a few new products after the first of the year, I thought I’d skip Featured Product Wednesday in favor of a few quick personal thoughts.
As a photographer, I do my best to capture special moments and precious memories for all of my clients. I’m so fortunate to have clients willing to share these with me. As a wife and a mom, I do my best to capture these for my own family and I’d like to take a moment to share them with YOU. At a time of the year when so many families are far apart and so many families barely have food on the table or gifts under the tree, it’s not hard to realize how lucky I really am. Above all, I am humbled by the gift of my family; I’m so very thankful for them. Happy holidays from my family to yours. Here are a few memories close to my heart.
Thomas: My other half; my partner. We met 13 years ago and got married almost 10 years ago. We’ve seen our fair share of good times and gray skies. I still love him like the day we met and the day we got married.
Alex: Our miracle baby. We tried for a very long time to get pregnant – months and months of heartbreak. Then came Alex and our world was bright again – and has never stopped being bright. Almost 7 years ago, tears of joy streamed down my face when I heard my baby boy cry for the first time.
Emily: The firecracker. I wasn’t quite prepared for the wonderful chaos that my spirited daughter would create. Little Miss Personality has been keeping me on my toes for almost 2 years now and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
