I must admit that I knew exactly what I was walking into when I arrived to photograph the 2 1/2 year old H twins. After all, my own daughter is the exact same age and she has more energy than I often know what to do with. The H twins were no different and I was certainly grateful that I had grabbed that energy drink, but I loved every minute. The greatest thing about toddler energy is how happy and carefree and just generally cute and lovable they are. I had such a great time playing with these two sweeties – and there’s one more H sibling on the way who I can’t wait to meet!
The M Family was looking to book a session on short notice and boy, were they lucky! My calendar is booked about 2 months out, but I had JUST happened to have a client call to reschedule. The M Family scooted into that timeslot and off we went to Hart Park in Newhall.
The M Family has 3 boys, all very close in age. You can tell that, although I’m sure they give each other a hard time, these boys are a clan. One thing they have in common? Perry the Platypus! The amazing thing is that I can totally talk Phineas & Ferb and enjoy it (chalk that up to having a 7 year old son myself!). We laughed and had a great time and I even discovered that the youngest brother has a secret wish to start acting. Headshots anyone?
Here in Southern California, we are so very fortunate to have gorgeous weather 90% of the time, but every now and then, a summer day will turn into a total scorcher. A total scorcher is what perfectly describes the weather the day of the P Family’s photo session. And yet, they still managed to make this look good!
The morning of the Martin Family’s photo session, I woke up with [what I now know was] strep throat. After chatting with L, we decided that the session must go on. I’d be lying if I said that it was easy. It wasn’t. But it WAS fun. These three cuties were full of energy and giggles, although I did try to keep my distance to keep the germies away! 🙂
For this session, the idea was to capture the whole family, including the new little bundle on the way. Can you believe that R looks this fantastic at 30 weeks pregnant?!!! Not only that, but she was really feeling the pregnancy the day of the session and she still made it look good! Love this family and their cutie-patootie two kiddos too! Can’t wait to meet little Baby C!
The G Family met me for their portraits and quickly explained that Dad was out of town for 3 weeks and they had a wonderful welcome home planned for him. Among a few pretty awesome surprises, they had decided to have family portraits taken as a gift for him. We had a ton of fun capturing these moments for him!
Last week, you met the Guerra Family. I honestly had so many images that I loved from their session that I decided to split the images into two blog posts.
So…how many of you noticed that the Guerra boys are twins? Oh yes…very dashingly handsome, charismatic twins who are ACTORS! It was time to update their headshots, so we set some time aside from their family portrait session to focus on headshots.
We had SO much fun goofing around while taking their photos! They cracked me up! Let’s hope that Hollywood snatches this talented twosome right up.
When I started pre-planning this session with the Guerras, they were looking for the perfect location. They loved the idea of Bridgeport Marketplace in Valencia (ahem, Awesometown) since they wanted a lush landscape. I was ready to switch gears if necessary, since the lighting at Bridgeport Marketplace & Duckpond can be tricky depending on the weather. It turned out that I didn’t have to use my backup plan – the light was absolutely gorgeous that day! And boy-oh-boy, did this family look stunning in their portraits!
WHY ADD STUDIO SESSIONS?
I am and always have been a natural light photographer and that’s not going to change any time soon. I love playing with light and I love exploring new nooks and crannies at different locations…the possibilities are endless! But what happens if it rains? What happens if it’s REALLY windy (hello, Santa Ana winds!). Until now, the only option was to reschedule, but that’s all about to change.
When I posed the option of studio sessions to my current clients, I was shocked at how excited and on-board with it they were! I knew right then and there that, to properly serve my market here in the Santa Clarita Valley, I needed to add studio work to my services, not only as a backup plan, but also as a service option.
You know what? The truth is, I love studio work just as much as natural light work, ESPECIALLY PHOTOGRAPHING NEWBORNS! Studio work truly holds a completely new set of possibilities and a clean, uniform style.
Studio sessions will be priced the same as natural light sessions ($195 session fee) and will also run 1 – 2 hours in length. Newborn sessions may run up to 3 hours to allow for feedings, diaper changes, clothing changes, etc.
Many more props are available for studio sessions than natural light sessions (I wish I could lug all of this with me on natural light sessions!). For newborn sessions, I have baskets, bowls, blankets, hats, headbands, and more! For family / child sessions, I have chairs, stools, toy props, dress up clothing, and more! A variety of backdrops are available for different and unique looks.
Starting today, I will be accepting reservations for studio sessions on a first-come, first-serve basis, including newborn**, family (up to 4 family members), and headshot sessions. For the time being, reservations will be limited, as they will take place at my home studio so I can properly judge the level of interest in this service. If the level of interest is sufficient, there is a plan in place to rent an official studio space, at which time, availability will be expanded.
RESERVE YOUR STUDIO SESSION
Please note that Cristen Farrell Photography is closed from July 30 – August 7th (for a last bout of family fun with my kids before school resumes!). I will however be returning calls and emails periodically.
*Although initial sessions will take place in my home studio, all studio equipment is of the highest, professional grade quality. This is the same equipment that would eventually be transferred to a permanent studio.
**If booking a newborn studio session, please remember that it is highly recommended to book your session in your newborn’s first 1 – 2 weeks of life.
