I met Iona on a gorgeous SoCal day at Hart Park. Iona had never had headshots taken, so she was looking for some clean, fun shots. She is both a music student at Berklee College of Music in New York (she plays the French Horn & sings!) and a massage therapist, so she needed images that would work be flexible enough to work for both and yet, show her easygoing personality.
Keep this little lady’s name on your mind, because she’s going places!
This blog post is the first in a Wednesday series about great locations for photo sessions.
So often, clients ask for suggestions for where to shoot. I have a long list of ideas that I usually send via email, but I definitely have a few favorites, so I thought I’d share them here.
Today’s location, Hart Park, is my favorite for several reasons.
HART RANCH AND MUSEUM (aka Hart Park)

1) There are so very many landscape options at this location. You can take photos in front of some rustic cabins near the duckpond, you can venture out to the grassy areas lined with rustic fences, you can visit the historic Saugus Train Station & Heritage Junction, you can hike the trail to the museum and out-buildings and enjoy stunning views, desert landscapes, and beautifully aged trees and meadows, or you can visit the animal barn for some fun candids.
2) This location is easily accessible for families with small children or even maternity shoots. Many of the great spots for photos are a short walk from the parking lot on either paved road or dirt (not very rocky).
3) Hart Park is in close proximity to other great locations, most of them within walking distance. A session at Hart Park can also include a short walk to Veterans Historical Plaza for a perfectly landscaped, manicured look or even Old Town Newhall / Main Street for an eclectic, urban feel.
4) Hart Park is full of the rich history of the Santa Clarita Valley. William S. Hart had a huge impact on Santa Clarita in it’s earliest years and Hart Park is one of the most historic locations in the city. A trip to the park is not only a relaxing experience, but an exploration adventure and an educational opportunity.
Hart Park is great for family sessions, maternity sessions, headshot sessions, senior sessions, and pretty much every other type of session.
